What is SB powder?

SB (Sasol boehmite) powder is a high-quality high-purity pseudo boehmite developed by German company Sasol, which is produced from high-purity aluminum and higher alcohols. Due to its good crystal structure, easy control of pore structure, large specific surface area, and high purity, it is widely used in the catalyst field. It is specifically reflected in the following two aspects:

 

 

1. Used as a binder for catalysts in the petrochemical industry

 

 

The pseudo boehmite after acid dissolution has adhesive properties and is one of the main components of the dual aluminum based binder for FCC catalysts. Pseudo boehmite as a binder can not only improve the strength of the catalyst, but also adjust the pore size distribution of the catalyst, improve the hydrothermal stability of the catalyst, adjust the density of acidic active centers of the catalyst, and improve catalytic activity.

 

 

2. Used as a catalyst or catalyst carrier

 

 

Pseudo boehmite is widely used in the production of catalyst carriers for various reactions in chemical, oil refining, and petrochemical industries. Its typical examples include hydrogenation catalyst carriers, reforming catalyst carriers, methanation catalyst carriers, etc. Pseudo boehmite is dehydrated and can also be used as a catalyst. It is obtained by low-temperature roasting γ- Aluminum oxide is used as Claus sulfur recovery catalyst, ethanol isomerization catalyst, ethanol dehydration catalyst, etc.

 

 

In contrast, in China, the carbonation method of sodium aluminate solution is mainly used to produce mid to low-end products. Its application in the catalyst field is limited, and it is generally only used for synthesizing catalysts that do not require high purity and structure of raw materials, such as the production of molecular sieves through hydrothermal synthesis.
